A poetic theatrical text by Idlir Azizaj that delves into the various European adaptations of Medea, from Seneca to Heiner Müller. In this performance, Medea’s situation is confronted with the contemporary experiences of the “exilic” and migrant subject in Southeastern Europe and the EU. The piece brings to the forefront various biographies from the Balkan region, exploring their political and artistic utopias, the deceptions they encountered, and the disillusionments that followed. Questions surrounding gender, emancipation, difference, and the acceptance of the “other” are raised and examined in ways that differ within and outside the European Union.
MEDEA ODER DIE KUNST DES EXILS functions as a workshop addressing these themes. It invites discussion on the artistic production conditions in war-torn Kosovo, shedding light on the aesthetic and socio-political expectations and attitudes of the people living there. At the same time, by implementing the Art of Exile in Central European Innsbruck, the project fosters an exchange of art-political practices between the two regions.
The project is dedicated to exploring the artistic production conditions in Kosovo. As part of the Vorbrenner Festival, it will showcase theatrical works, performances, and architectural theater concepts. The project also invites collaboration for the upcoming TheaterMusikFestival ”Unter dem Pflug der Zeit” (Under the plow of time”).
