Program

VORBRENNER is a contemporary art platform that promotes process-oriented work across all disciplines and genres. It offers short-term opportunities for collaboration for both collectives and individual artists in search of new insights and contemporary forms of expression that engage with an interdisziplinary concept of art and science. The focus is on a movement that is curious, experimental, researching, and developing, that welcomes the unfinished, the paradoxical, and the fragmentary. For exploratory trials of such nature, VORBRENNER provides the BRUX premises along with infrastructure and financial resources.

Do you believe the mother of sound is movement? Whether visible or invisible, when a stone is thrown, the sound is heard, presumably on earth. If the movements are choreographed, the consequence of the movement, the sound, is arranged/composed. The project “Jī” explores under these presumptions and plays with the visibility and audibility of the cause and effect of the movement  “Jī”. “Jī” is the Pinyin of the Chinese character “击”, meaning to hit or strike at something. This “something” could be the physical medium where the sound is generated.
Working with metal since the first performance of the “3 D metal series” by Dan Su, they utilize raw metal material and found objects to create sound instruments. The instrument functions both as the sound source and as the collaborator with the performer who implements the movement. Thus, the dancer is the mother of music. The dancer with the sound instrument is a musician. However, what exactly is the music? -> To be found out at “Jī”, a new solo work of Dan Su developing at Vorbrenner.

        Dan Su

Dan Su is a transdisciplinary artist, composer, musician and choreographer who work with sound and movement through experiments, compositions, conceptual improvisations, performances, installations, experimental music, dance, and art. With a playful gesture, their work tell open narratives. Centered around the interplay of ontology, cybernetics, psychology, and methodology, their work attempts to evoke the fifth ghostly dimension, and to create new experiences in the unimaginable landscapes.
