Program

VORBRENNER is a contemporary art platform that promotes process-oriented work across all disciplines and genres. It offers short-term opportunities for collaboration for both collectives and individual artists in search of new insights and contemporary forms of expression that engage with an interdisziplinary concept of art and science. The focus is on a movement that is curious, experimental, researching, and developing, that welcomes the unfinished, the paradoxical, and the fragmentary. For exploratory trials of such nature, VORBRENNER provides the BRUX premises along with infrastructure and financial resources.

EBBE / FLUT tells stories of isolation, intimacy, and community among transgender people. With all their grief, anger, self-discipline, and hedonism, the characters find themselves in conflict but also continuously learn to coexist. Their narratives intertwine until the boundaries between “you” and “I” dissolve—narratives of bodies and dysphoria, self-determination and security, love and sex, ancestry and faith, coming of age and family. Dance, poetry, text, medical practices, and digital media intersect with the turning of the tides. As the waters rise, so does the pressure of exclusion, violence, isolation, and old wounds.
What forms of community, healing, and transformation can we dream of, even as we find ourselves ankle-deep in water? Despite all our differences, how do we perceive one other and our audience?

Kristin Jackson Lerch

Kristin Jackson Lerch is a dancer, performance artist, and caretaker. With roots in queer subcultures, she is self-taught and has turned to the visual arts. Through dance, makeup, sound design, text, and digital media, she tells autofictional narratives, such as in “Gerald” (MuMok, 2020), “Ich bin was wert!” (Sargnagel lädt ein, 2019), or as part of the team in “What comes after the storm?” (including Theater am Markt, 2024), “Tell me more about your silence” (Kunsthalle Wien, 2023), and “Chimeric Tendencies” (Steirischer Herbst, 2024). As a moderator, she worked at Artist Talks such as (e.g., Women in Drag, 2022), as well as a dance educator (e.g., Wer bin ich?, 2024). In 2022, she co-founded trans*motion with Nkeny Bakilam Nsangong. Additionally, Kristin performs in drag shows and as a go-go dancer, as well as modeling and appearing in music videos. In Isa Schieche's film "Die Räuberinnen" (Max Ophüls Prize, 2024), she played the lead role of Agnes.

Rey Joichl

Rey Molina Joichl is a dreamy aquarius sun, a passionate dancer, a soft slut, an insomniac writer, a caring community organizer and a psychologist. As descendant of Aymara people and Austrian farmers he sees himself as Qariwarmi and has been researching trans-futurist and indigenous psychologies and how to implement these as choreographic strategies since 2023. Exploring critical societal contexts as well as the role of the audience in theaters, club venues and everyday life plays a significant role in his practice. Rey’s current work “mi cuerpo. en llamas” is a critical love letter to the audience’s gaze and consumption of dissident bodies and “underground” cultures. His practice spans from kitsch drag artistry (as “El Maricón”) to contemporary performance art, at times flirting with comedy and record spinning, and occasionally hosting Reggaetón and Perreo workshops. Rey is part of trans*motion, as well as S_P_I_T_ Festival, Hyperreality Festival for Clubculture, Brunnenpassage, and Kissen. Since the beginning of 2022 he has been an integral member of the Ballroom Community in Vienna and has walked balls all across Europe, in Lima (PE) and in Arequipa (PE) under his ballroom alias Dulce 007.

Xava Mikosch

Xava Mikosch is a transdisciplinary artist with a focus on film, creative writing, and performance. In his artistic work, various media play a central role, as well as the exploration and questioning of postcolonial, socio-political processes. In addition to studying digital arts at the University of Applied Arts, he furthered his education at the Stockholm University of the Arts and through the DanceWEB scholarship at the ImPulsTanz Festival to gain new, critical perspectives in dance and performance. As part of the cultural association mal hans mal franz, Mikosch co-created the feature film LIEBE LEBEN HÜNDIN HOCHZEIT with Julia Polzer, where he was responsible for directing and producing, as well as performing in front of the camera. At the steirischer herbst 2024, he presented the process showing of his current project "Chimeric Tendencies", which engaged critically and queerly with Styrian folklore.
